What is Acleara?
The Acleara Acne Clearing System is a relatively new product for the treatment of acne. Introduced in 2011, this system uses broadband light and suction to clean the skin and kill bacteria that cause acne. This treatment can be used for patients of any age, and for any degree of acne. The treatments are gentle, painless and results show in a matter of a few weeks. Virtually everyone is an ideal candidate. The Acleara Acne Clearing System is the first system of its kind cleared by the U.S. Federal Food and Drug Administration.
How Does the Acleara System Work?
The Acleara System combines two different methods for effective acne treatment. To begin, the held-held vacuum piece is placed on the parts of the skin that require treatment. The vacuum opens up pores, removing acne-causing bacteria and cleansing the skin. Following vacuum therapy, the system then utilizes a filtered, broadband light to destroy any remaining bacteria and to reduce the spread of oil on the skin. This step takes a matter of milliseconds to complete. The broadband light works by activating porphryns (naturally occurring, organic compounds) to destroy propionibacterium acnes bacteria (a bacteria which is thought to cause acne).
How Effective is the Treatment?
Right away, after your first treatment, your skin will feel fresher and not as oily. It will probably only take a few days for your acne outbreak to begin to clear up. The Acleara Acne Clearing System will not only clear much of your current outbreak, but it will reduce the chance of having another outbreak as well. It is recommended that treatments are done every two weeks for a total of 6-8 treatments.
Your provider can use the Acleara Acne Clearing System to treat acne on the face, chest, back and more. Any part of your skin that is prone to a breakout is treatable by Acleara. As an added bonus, your pores will gradually appear smaller as the system clears the skin’s oils, the dead skin cells are removed, and the bacteria are destroyed.
Are There Side Effects?
Sometimes, you might feel like you have minor sunburn, or a little swelling or bruising. This normally goes away within a day. Ask your doctor what to do in case this happens to you. Any of these effects usually are greatly helped with a short course of acetaminophen or ibuprofen.
How Common is Acne?
No one with acne need feel alone; every eight out of 10 people over the age of 11 years is troubled by acne. Many of those who suffer from acne are teenagers or in their early 20s, but plenty of adults have acne as well. The Acleara Acne Clearing System clears all types of acne, from blackheads and whiteheads, to even pustular acne. Everyone with any type of mild or moderate acne can benefit from this system.
